There are a few places around LSU that everybody goes when hunger calls. DIG has complied our favorite menu items from some of the top ten eateries around campus. These places will make sure you walk out with a full belly and a full wallet, whether you are on a student’s budget or not.
Roul’s Deli located at 3327 Highland Rd. (70802) offers up some of the juiciest burgers in town. Though you might miss Roul’s tiny storefront as you cruise by, the flavors here some of the biggest around. DIG recommends the Mega Burger With Shrimp Combo. At just $7.00 this shrimp burger dressed with onions and cheese comes with fries to boot.
Rotolo’s Pizzeria at 4343 Nicholson Dr. (70808) is not just about pizza. With pasta, wings, and calzones on the menu and 18 beers on tap (for those old enough to indulge), even in a big group everyone is sure to find something they want. DIG recommends the Deluxe Combination Calzone. At $8.99 you’ll get all the pepperoni, Italian sausage, green peppers, red onions, and mushrooms you can handle.
Kolache Kitchen- 4245 Nicholson Dr. Suite B (70808) –has all the tacos, empanadas, kolaches, and rancheros you could ever dream up. DIG recommends the BOTH THE Boudin Kolache for $2.80 AND the Strawberry Kolache for $1.35. With the extra dough you can even get some coffee and enjoy the free wifi.
Koi Sushi –217 W State St. (70802)- is a Japanese restaurant with drool-worthy plates for meat-eaters and veggie-lovers alike. The Spicy Veggie Roll for only $6.20 is a treat for vegetarians who crave something heartier than a healthy salad. This roll contains tempura-fried asparagus, avocado and cucumber served and a spicy tempura sauce.
Inga’s at 254 W. Chimes (70802) may be best-known for its delicious and cost-effective subs and sandwiches, but that’s not all you can get at this charming North-gate deli. DIG recommends the Beef/Chicken Teriyaki on Rice with vegetables for only $6.50. This hot bowl of goodness is top-quality stuff for such a low price, leaving you some spare change for a cookie as well.
Louie’s Café -3322 Lake St. (70802)- is an institution in our fair city. With many delicious items under $10.00, most readers our there probably already have your favorite Louie’s breakfast food or burger picked out already. DIG’s favorite today is listed as a “side” but will fill you up at any hour of the day: Super Hashbrowns. For just $7.50, these signature Cajun hashbrowns come crispy from the griddle and piled with mushrooms, colby cheese, and sour cream.
Breck’s Bistro is located at 3930 Burbank Drive, Ste. F (70808) offers casual dining with style. Their Pesto Pasta is just $9.89. This garlic-tossed pasta dish is top-notch, complete with sautéed mushrooms and a creamy pesto sauce, served over a pool of marinara. And if you can wake up early enough, there is a killer brunch menu for Sundays only.
Lakeside Bar Daiquiri and Grill offers a convenient location – 7490 Burbank Dr. (at S Kenilworth Pkwy) (70820)- and good times well into the evening hours. The hallowed $1 burger was practically invented at Lakeside. Every Wednesday starting at 7 p.m., you can get a big juicy burger for only a buck. Don’t forget to wash it down with $1.50 Miller High Life, or your favorite premium daiquiri.
Zippy’s combines Mexican restaurant with sports bar. At 3155 Perkins Rd. (70808) it’s close to campus, but just far enough away that you won’t be stuck forever in game day traffic if you want to take in a game with friends. Their $4.00 margarita specials are great value, and the food is too. DIG recommends their Fajita Steak Quesadillas on a grilled flour tortilla filled with cheese. All quesadillas are served with chips, salsa, & sour cream. At $9.95, you can’t beat the price.
And last but not least… Plucker’s Wing Bar! Located at 4225 Nicholson Dr. (70808), Pluckers is a local favorite with an awesome atmosphere, low wait times, and hot wings galore. The 5 Wing and 3 Tender Combo at $9.99 is a no-brainer. Served with a side item and ranch dressing, the wings are smothered in any of Pluckers 23 signature sauces, meaning you get exactly what you want and plenty to share!
Whether it’s game day or just a lazy day, you can treat yourself to a fine meal for a fair price. Eat away, drink responsibly, and Geaux Tigers!
