Seasonal beers are in the air. According to Leo Basile, Vice President of Sales at Abita, for the last 15 years Abita has been hosting pub crawls to launch each new seasonal beer. On August 27 Abita released their newest fall brew, Octoberfest. This German style lager, available until November, will replace their previous beer, Fallfest. “They’re completely different beers though,” explains Basile, “We just felt there was a better understanding of an Octoberfest beer than a Fallfest one.” There will be no points for wearing lederhosen, but you are more than welcome to if you feel like getting into the spirit of this new lager.
So in true Abita fashion, there will be a celebration pub crawl Friday night. With all bars within walking, or crawling depending on your state, distance Basile notes, “This is a fun night for people to come out get to know each other, and drink safely and responsibly.”
The crawl will start at 5 pm at The Varsity and Chimes Restaurant, travel around Northgate hot spots like Buffalo Wild Wings, Reginelli’s, and The Library, and end at Slinky’s on W. Chimes St. Throughout the night you can responsibly try several new beers and hangouts. Abita’s Octoberfest will be on sale for two dollars at all participating bars.
You can pre-register on Abita’s website or just wait until you get there Friday. Those that pre-register will get a free German Stein to commemorate the celebration. Basile says he is expecting anywhere from 500 to 1,000 people: “Our biggest pub crawls are the ones in Baton Rouge near campus. Even our smallest ones are about 400 people.”
This fall don’t get settled on your pumpkin beers, Abita has something else in store for fall as well, explains Basile, “In about 3 weeks our Pecan ale will be available.” The ale is made with Louisiana local pecans and the fall flavor of Abita’s Harvest series. The crawl may also be a good chance to say goodbye to some of your favorite summer flavors, like Abita Seersucker Summer Pils, a full bodied pilsner, which will be going away very soon.
