Dig Baton Rouge

All Pumpkin Spice Everything

By Catie Santos

It’s that time of year again – the weather is cooling off, the nights are getting longer, and scents of pumpkin spice are filling the air. For many, it is time to flock back to Starbucks to worship the holy grail of coffee that is the Pumpkin Spice Latte. But don’t let that be the only seasonal treat you imbibe in this fall – Baton Rouge has plenty of unique pumpkin-flavored offerings around the city. If you’re trying to find a fall state of mind, then pick up one of the following 5 fall treats!

1. Yogurtland’s Pumpkin Pie Yogurt

Yogurtland’s popular seasonal flavor is back and in high demand – get it before it runs out! Made with real pumpkin flavoring and complimentary spices, this frozen yogurt treat is gluten (and guilt!) free. One bite tastes exactly like pumpkin pie, minus the calories. Eat it plain or load it up with any of the endless toppings such as graham crackers or chocolate chips.

2.  Cupcake Allie’s Pumpkin Cupcake Bites

Cupcake Allie’s motto is “small cakes, big personality,” and sure enough, these small cake balls pack a big punch. Each is decorated to look exactly like a cute little pumpkin, and the sweet flavor of these bite-sized treats makes it impossible to stop eating them once you start. Caution: exercise self-control, because it is very easy to eat tons of these at once!

3. Mr. Ronnie’s Pumpkin Spice Donuts

Mr. Ronnie’s Famous Hot Donuts is now serving Pumpkin Spice cake donuts with cream cheese frosting. These tasty donuts aren’t just for breakfast and are best enjoyed at any time of day, and since Mr. Ronnie’s is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you have plenty of opportunities to try these savory donuts. These donuts are the fall comfort food you didn’t know you needed during a long session of studying or after a particularly rough test.

4. Fat Cow’s Pumpkin Pie Milkshake

While Fat Cow may be famous for their unique burgers, there is something very special about their milkshakes. More filling than a smoothie but not too heavy, Fat Cow’s seasonal pumpkin pie milkshake is the perfect dessert. The smooth, subtle pumpkin flavor is highlighted by lots of cinnamon and has an incredible creamy texture, making this milkshake the perfect fall dessert.

5. The Bulldog’s Saint Arnold Pumpkinator

This is the beer version of a super-strong Pumpkin Spice Latte. At 10% alcohol by volume, this pumpkin-flavored beer packs a punch. Molasses and brown sugar flavors enhance the amber lager, and its sweet flavor is just subtle enough. Jerry Keating, 21, a marketing major and self-described beer connoisseur says that the “perfect blend of roasted spices coupled with a stouty finish makes the Pumpkinator a real treat this time of year.” A Pumpkinator is best enjoyed on the back patio of the Bulldog on a cool, fall evening.
