Gentlemen, start your engines.
This weekend, some of the finest custom and rebuilt cars from around the country will descend upon the Baton Rouge River center for the Baton Rouge World of Wheels and International Show Car Association National Championship Finals.
“We’re bringing in 550 room night hotel rentals,” said Blaine Chiasson, who has helped organize and produce the inaugural World of Wheels event in Baton Rouge. “These cars are coming from New Jersey to California. This is a big deal.”
The event will be a “show within a show,” according to the ISCA website, with the World of Wheels serving as the overarching exhibition. The ISCA championship will host the top 28 point-earners in the association, who have been traveling across the country for various ISCA competitions. The event showcases the best of the best, with over 350 classifications for cars, trucks, and motorcycles, with a Grand Champion to be crowned at the end.
According to the ISCA website, events award an average of $10,000 in cash and prizes to exhibitors at each show, and the total for the entire season is more than $750,000. An additional $250,000 in cash and prizes is awarded at the Championship Finals banquet.
The World of Wheels will also hand out cash awards for best custom, truck, rod, restoration, and motorcycle, as well as outstanding awards in each category. Awards for Louisiana’s Best and Cajun Classic will also be doled out.
The three-day event will also feature a host of vendors and guest appearances from the likes of NASCAR driver Buster Graham; Kart racing champion Ethan Antoine; pro late-model driver Ronnie Osner; Rick Phillips of CMT’s “Swamp Pawn” and others.
