Gameday? There’s an App for That

By Randee Iles

Every home game LSU fans come from all around the state to tailgate and show their Tiger pride.  Along with your football tickets, one thing you never want to leave at home is your smartphone.  About half the people at an LSU tailgate will have a beer in one hand and their phone in the other.  As technology increases, more and more apps are coming out that will make your game day experience way better. Here are six of our favorites.

  • ESPN Sportscenter/WatchESPN

While LSU always comes first, if you are a sports fan there may be other games you want to watch while you tailgate or watch the Tigers play.  Fortunately ESPN has two apps to help you find out scores without being near a television. ESPN Sportscenter has the scores for all the games going on, and even will use push notifications to update a score.  If you would rather see the game, WatchESPN is the app for you because allows you to watch games straight from your phone. With increased cell reception in Tiger Stadium, you can use commercial breaks to watch games from across the country on your 4G.

  • Waze

It’s no secret that traffic on game days is completely dreadful, so save yourself some time by using this app.  Waze is a social traffic app that allows people to report traffic, accidents and even police pulling people over.  Avoid the car wrecks and speeding tickets so you can start tailgating as soon as possible!

  • Yik Yak

This anonymous app allows you to see what people all around you are saying.  Yik Yak is full of hilarious posts, so if you have nothing to do while you wait in the incredibly long concessions line, start yikyakin’! Also with this app finding the tailgates with the best food or figuring out which bar is worth going to is much easier.  Don’t forget to post on Yik Yak also, the more the merrier!

  • Hyperlapse

The new app from Instagram is becoming popular fast, and it’s easy to see why.  Hyperlapse allows you to shoot video and then speed it up to 12 times faster.  Bored during the halftime show?  Take out Hyperlapse and watch the band scurry around the field at top speed.

  • Life 360

Worried about losing your frat brother who had one too many drinks?  Don’t sweat it!  Download this app and create a circle with all your friends or family; it will show you where everyone in your private circle is, and also allows you to check in and message.  “Where are you” will be a thing of the past!

  • Battery Doctor

During lulls in the game it’s almost a habit to start playing on your phone, and almost everyone has experienced the atrocity of having their phone die before the game is even over.  Whether you are checking your newsfeed on Facebook or using any of these other great apps, avoid draining the life from your phone with Battery Doctor!  This app monitors your battery life, shows you what apps are using the most power, and helps you get the most out of your phone.
