Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson sues city of Baton Rouge over arrest

Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson is suing the city of Baton Rouge following his arrest at a protest in the wake of the shooting death of Alton Sterling, The Associated Press reports. Mckesson filed a class-action lawsuit along with two others who were arrested at the protest.

“Defendants used excessive force in attacking, battering, beating, and assaulting plaintiffs and class members without provocation or the need for defense,” the suit says, according to The Associated Press.

Mckesson was arrested July 9 on a charge of “obstructing a highway.”
