Bold Beauty: Local blogger talks style advice, makeup

Candace Hampton, the Baton Rouge-based woman behind the style and beauty blog The Beauty Beau, chatted with DIG via email about her best style advice, her blog and everything in between.

How did you become interested in fashion?
I actually started out with makeup online, which blossomed, and on a whim, I decided to post an OOTD (outfit of the day). I received great feedback and I really enjoyed it, so I decided to keep going.

If you had to describe your blog to someone who’d never seen it, what would you say?
Be prepared to see me try everything! If you aren’t inspired within the first minute of viewing my blog, I’ve failed at life.

Describe your style in three words.
Eclectic, vintage & edgy

Your style seems to incorporate many vintage elements. Is there a particular decade you think shaped your style?
I am obsessed with the ‘70s. Flares, high-waisted bottoms, laced up tops and shoes, button front skirts, cold shoulders—give me everything!

How has your experience in Louisiana shaped you in terms of beauty and style?
It’s shown me that I’m really not like anyone else here beauty or style-wise, and that’s OK. That’s what has allowed me to develop my niche and penetrate the Louisiana fashion industry in a unique way.

What’s the best place to shop in Baton Rouge?
To be honest, I don’t shop in Baton Rouge. Most of my shopping is done online. Locally, I do love Urban Outfitters though. I never walk out of there empty-handed. Plus they have a ton of vintage stuff!

Are you planning any projects for the future?
Let’s just say God has revealed to me through a number of signs what my destiny is. I have something huge planned that my boyfriend and I are working on, and we cannot wait to share it in the very near future!

Is there a woman in your family who inspired you in terms of beauty and style?
For beauty, I’d definitely say my mother. She has always had excellent skin and that has been with me since I was a kid, all of her techniques and skincare wisdom.

What’s your best style advice?
Basic items will take you far. In my 26 years of life, I’ve just now realized how important they are and just how easy they are to incorporate with trends. They are excellent investments!

What’s the most prized piece in your wardrobe?
My Valentino Rockstuds. I’ll probably never spend that much on a pair of shoes again…maybe haha!

What’s the makeup or skincare product you can’t get enough of?
Tom Ford Traceless Foundation! I don’t like too much coverage, but I like a LOT of glow, and it is well worth the money.
