Demolition is set to begin on the East Baton Rouge Parish Library system’s River Center branch on Oct. 4, according to The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report. Construction on a new building will begin shortly after demolition, and the library is expected to be open by August 2018.
“Demolition must be planned very carefully since we are surrounded by historical buildings such as the Old State Capitol as well as important civic buildings and spaces,” library spokesperson Sonya Gordon said, according to The Business Report. “We also have the issues of vehicular access for the two courthouses and governmental building.”
The project will cost around $19 million.
