While Bin 77 may not be the most notable of all drinking establishments in a city that prides itself on a collegiate population that chugs Natty Light by the keg, craft cocktail bars here in Baton Rouge are in the midst of a new wave, a revolution, or maybe even a renaissance. With regular events like the DIG Bar Fight competition and the impending Holiday Cocktail Competition, cocktail conventions and city-wide gatherings, there’s no denying just how established the city that was once known as New Orleans’ neighbor is truly becoming.
Bin 77 is a big part of that cocktail revolution, with an impressive menu chock full of classics and originals alike. One drink that well-suited for the fall weather is the Chai Cider Cocktail, a recent winner of 2015’s annual Fall Heat Competition. Composed of local Bayou Spiced Rum, apple cider, sugar and spice garnish, and cinnamon, the cocktail’s got enough flavor and potency to keep your stomach and your buzz happy. A simple drink with a simple premise, the Chai Cider Cocktail chases away winter blues with ease.
This serves as a mere example of the onslaught of delicious drinks that Baton Rouge has been responsible for lately. The bartenders that do the city proud are part of a small coalition of mixologists who amply personify what’s happening, so keep the tips flowing and the requests coming because we all play a part in the city’s cocktail identity. If we want Baton Rouge to grow into the identity we all see the potential for, than efforts like cannot go unnoticed. Reward creativity with your patronage. Recommend those making waves to your friends so they find success and others follow suit, because if we’re ever to escape the shadow of our chain restaurants and box stores, these are the ways to do it. Bin 77 is a microcosm of what Baton Rouge can become, so support Baton Rouge by supporting them.
