Just weeks into the job, new Governor John Bel Edwards is singing a different tune than one the campaign trail. Months ago, candidate Edwards criticized then-Gov. Jindal’s pay packages for top state officials, saying “We’re not going to pay the same salaries that Bobby Jindal’s been paying. They’re exorbitant. They’re too high. We’re going to reduce those costs right off the top.”
However, The Advocate is now reporting that Edwards has not only kept those salaries in place, he’s boosted others as the state struggles with the worst budget hole in nearly three decades.
