The Baton Rouge Astronomical Society has decided to try its hand at hosting Baton Rouge’s first Asteroid Day! This special event will focus on…

…the origins of asteroids
…the chemical makeup and orbits around the Sun☉
…the potential dangers they pose to Earth♁
…how to mitigate and/or plan for those dangers
…how to view asteroids with a binocular or telescope
…how to acquire the rudimentary skills for imaging and tracking asteroids
…steps to take to lessen light pollution in order to view/image dimmer asteroids

The event will include a variety of asteroid-oriented physical science demonstrations, experiments and videos! Patrons will also see, weather-permitting and as the climax at 9:45 pm, a live view of the asteroid Vesta!
