Nordstrom Rack has brought designer fashion at a low price to the residents of Baton Rouge.
The store located outside of the Mall of Louisiana held its grand opening on Thursday, Oct. 1, treating customers to music, coffee and breakfast treats. The store also held a raffle to give away $100 gift card to 30 lucky customers and awarded one lucky person a $1000 shopping spree.
Public Relations Coordinator Jessica Canfield hosted a pre-opening tour on Wednesday allowing DIG to get a first look inside the store. During final preparations for the much-anticipated opening, Canfield showed DIG what makes Nordstrom Rack a destination for high-end fashion at a discounted price.
“For anyone who has shopped at a Nordstrom store and Nordstrom online, you’ll notice that the Nordstrom Rack stores have a lot of the same designers, the difference being that they are 30-70 percent off,” says Canfield. “It may be something that came in from a full line store, it may be something that the vendor made too many off or something last season. But it is a lot of the brands you’ll recognize if you shop at Nordstrom.”
The store has fashions for men, women and plus-size women. Canfield also shared that one thing that their Baton Rouge location offers that not all Nordstrom Rack locations offers are kids clothing and shoes.
One of the things that this Nordstrom Rack offers to customers is in store alterations; you can purchase clothing and get them tailored to fit you perfectly right there in the store.
There are also accessories such as designer handbags, shoes, sunglasses and cell phone cases from designers such as Kate Spade, Burberry and Michael Kors as well as beauty products such as OPI Nail Polish and EOS Lip Balm.
According to Canfield at the end of the year there will be 194 Nordstrom Rack stores and the company’s goal is to have a total of 300 stores by 2020.
She says they felt that Baton Rouge had the perfect atmosphere to put a Nordstrom Rack store.
“We’re growing quite a bit, and we are keeping our eyes open and our ears to the ground all around the country for great locations,” says Canfield. “What we look for when we open a store is we want it to be somewhere that is convenient for customers. We obviously want to be somewhere where there is a customer who is looking for what we have to offer. It is also important for us to find a place that has great retail, great entertainment and great restaurants to offer close by. We feel this is a great location for us and checks all of those boxes.”
Canfield says what makes Nordstrom Rack better than any outlet store is the fact that it is not an outlet store. By also having a full line store, they can carry not only merchandise from last season but also from the current season.
“Because we have the full line business we have great relationships with vendors so often times we’ll be the first ones they come to if, for instance, they made too many of a handbag in the fall. So they’ll some to us first because we have that relationship with them.”
One thing that will put customers at ease with the busiest season for shopping on the horizon is the use of mobile checkout. Shoppers will be able to approach any clerk wearing a green shirt and check out without having to stand in a long line.
Nordstrom Rack is located next to DSW, Ulta, Lane Bryant and Kirkland’s. Their hours are from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
