Former Louisiana Lt. Gov. “Bobby” Freeman has died at 82 years old, The Advocate reports. He’d been suffering from an inoperable aneurysm.
Freeman was lieutenant governor from 1980-1988 and served under governors Edwin Edwards and David Treen.
“He was just the kind of fair-minded person who thought you treat everybody fairly and equally and that government should do everything possible to help the disadvantaged,” said former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards of Freeman, according to The Advocate.
Prior to his role as Louisiana lieutenant governor, Freeman was a member of the LSU boxing team. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the university.
