Get Perfectly Taylored

By Yuwa Vosper

Not many college juniors are already successful entrepreneurs, but Peyton Simms defies that mold already, launching her own clothing line of Perfectly Taylored T-shirts. Currently, she is pursuing a concentration in Apparel Design at LSU within the Department of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising. Simms explained that she has a strong team that helps to balance her many duties.

“I have great friends to help me with time management. I use a calendar and make time,” she said. “Sometimes I have to sacrifice.”

Researching and Launching a Business

Simms decided to start her collection when students began to approach her about the comfortable tees she wore on campus. It sparked the idea for her to create a line that offered the same quality tees at an affordable price. First, Simms did her research. She wanted to create a unique brand for women, so she researched women’s purchasing motivations and marketing, covering every realm of starting a business. Simms then decided to base her collection in New Orleans because it was a city she described as “dear to her.”

Perfectly Taylored Collection − coined from her name Peyton Taylor Simms − launched on December 13, 2014 and is already well received. She credits her sorority sisters, friends, family, and the media for her success.

“I saturated the media. Plus, it was right before Christmas. So, it was an easy gift,” Simms said. “Being a young entrepreneur, I am grateful people want to support me.”

The Collections

The Perfectly Taylored Collection currently has long-sleeve, tank, and short-sleeve styles. The unique aspect of these shirts is the fun and witty slogans. On the front, customers will see cursive script reading, “Early mornings, Messy hair, Vogue, and Coffee,” “Haute Mess,” “Dance All Night, Sleep All Day,” “I’m on a Champagne Diet,” and “Rue Royal” to name a few. Simms quoted phrases she heard and found fun. She said, “They were inspired by things I love, especially New Orleans with the Rue Royal tee. New Orleans always reminds me of a celebration and champagne.”

The Mardi Gras Collection and Styling

Simms is also creating a collection for Mardi Gras that is soon to launch on her website and in local retail stores. She suggests pairing a Mardi Gras top with black jeans, denim, or shorts. “You want to wear something comfortable,” Simms said.

“Make sure you have comfortable shoes. Wear something cute, but you are not afraid will get ruined, and dress for the highs not the lows in the weather forecast.”

Eventually, Simms will branch into loungewear and other products. However, she is content with the positive reception of her current brand. Her Perfectly Taylored fashion blog is also successful and provides styling inspiration. Whether it’s her collection or her blog, Peyton Taylor will leave you Perfectly Taylored for each occasion.
