Dig Baton Rouge

Girly Chic with a City Twist

By Yuwa Vosper

Mikala Morgan is often seen reporting the news on LSU Tiger Television or traveling the state as Miss Louisiana Mardi Gras. This mass communication sophomore is always on campus carrying her news camera and books, ready to seize the day while dressed perfectly poised. Morgan gives us a glimpse into her personal style choices, and tells us how she would dress for St. Patrick’s Day.

DIG: How would you describe your personal style?

Mikala Morgan: I would describe my personal style as girly chic. I like to wear pinks and reds, while still looking “glam,” and I often mix bright colors and neutral colors.

DIG: Who or where do you look for style inspiration?

MM:  A lot of my style inspiration comes from Pinterest boards of pageant titleholders and southern boutiques. I’m a really big fan of Jessie James Decker, and her Brigitte Bardot inspired hair and makeup; yet, I also like to keep things classy and city with inspiration from Gossip Girl and Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired ensembles.

DIG: Do you have a favorite way to accessorize your ensembles?

MM: I love cardigans! I think a simple cardigan could easily dress up an outfit, and add professionalism, especially when you’re pressed for time.

DIG: Which pieces of your wardrobe do you find yourself wearing over and over again?

MM: My favorite go-to accessories at the moment are my Kate Spade gold watch, Tom Ford gold aviators, and tan suede booties. I love adding tan/gold pieces to any outfit to add

just a touch of glam to each outfit.

DIG: What do you wear when you want to make an impact?

MM: When I want to make an impact I make sure to dress professional. To keep things professional, I really enjoy blazers, pencil skirts, and booties. To accessorize, I like to keep jewelry simple with studded pearls and a watch.

I’m a firm believer in first impressions, and dressing in the way that I want to be treated. Especially since I participate in pageants, and work with Tiger TV, I know firsthand that you never know what each day will bring.

DIG: How would you dress for St. Patrick’s Day?

MM: I would keep it simple with just a green dress. [She explained the ensemble would be similar to the one featured in the picture].
