Getting personal with a personal trainer

DIG checked in with Dr. Rodney Johnson Sr., Certified Trainer/Owner of Inspired Body Personal Physical Fitness Training to find out how targeted training can help with fitness goals. Johnson’s passion for life and for training was apparent, inspiring us to get up and get moving.

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

I have a passion for helping people. I have been involved in physical fitness for a long time so I decided to combine the two and turn them into a career. I successfully became a Certified Personal Trainer by IAFP and NETA, as well as earned a Healthy Lifestyle Certification from ACE, along with other related fitness certifications. I was inspired to become a personal trainer to share my knowledge of health and fitness with people who are searching for someone to personally guide them in achieving or maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes fitness training.

What kind of services do you offer?

At Inspired Body Personal Physical Fitness Training (IBPPFT), we offer a variety of training including, one-on-one, couples, and group sessions. We have Specific Sports Training for sports such as football or basketball; Strength and Conditioning Training for Athletes participating in any sport: Children’s Fitness for children ages 5 to 12 to jumpstart strength and cardio fitness. We consult with each client to determine what their individual goals are to design a custom program to meet their needs.

Who can benefit from a personal trainer?

Everyone can benefit from training! We have clients with various goals, some desire to burn fat or tone muscle. These clients have expressed a desire to transform their body, but did not know where to begin.  We also have clients who believe they have reached their ideal body type and simply want to maintain it. Following the guidance provided by our staff has allowed clients to either witness the success of a body transformation or successfully maintain and tone their current body type.

What are your top three tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle?

Eat Healthy: Eating healthy plays a major role for everyone to reach their fitness goals. Fitness training transforms the outer body, but in order to have a complete transformation, the inner body needs to be transformed and is done so by employing a regular healthy diet.

Stay Active: Regular routine exercise such as walking, jogging, running, and dancing, at least three times a week, is a great way to stay active and promote good health.

Stay Focused: Set health and fitness goals and stay on task to accomplish those goals.  

What’s your favorite success story of one of your clients?

One of my favorite success stories was a client who set out to achieve his goal of loosing weight, over a 2-month period of following our guidance and changing his eating habits, he contacted to me and proudly announced that he lost 14 pounds working with IBPPFT.

What questions should we ask when considering hiring a personal trainer?

Before hiring a personal trainer, you should find out what certifications the trainer has as well as if they have a program that will meets your needs. Some of our clients prefer to workout in group sessions, while others prefer one-on-one training opportunities. It is important to pick a training environment that you are comfortable with. Clients with recent health issues should also consult their physician prior to working out. Certified trainers should ask you about your current state of health prior to training you, so they can design a program that is right for you!

Who inspires you?

Each of my clients inspire me! When we begin our training, they commit to achieving their goals to be healthier. As I work with my clients, we recall where they were on day one of our program compared to where they are on day 12 of our program. To have them realize how much we have achieved working together is the best reward!
