A rail line between Baton Rouge and New Orleans has been debated for some time, and it’s one of Gov. John Bel Edwards’ top priorities, according to The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report. It would even help New Orleans and Baton Rouge “compete as a super region,” according to the governor.
“Baton Rouge and New Orleans compete against each,” Edwards said, according to The Business Report. “If we are going to be successful, we have to stop that. Baton Rouge and New Orleans have to get together and compete as a super region against other areas. You can’t do that if you can’t live in one city and work in the other.”
Edwards said this would help economic development, according to The Business Report. The line would cost roughly $260 million initially, plus more as it keeps running.
