Nick Garrison – Trombonist of The Easy
Every week, DIG asks a local musician, artist, entertainer, or person of note to name five songs T gives us five new tracks he can’t get enough of.
Q-Tip – “Do You Dig U?”
This track features a contagious hip-hop beat, soulful harmonized female vocals, and rhythmic verses in the male vocals. The fender Rhodes electric piano sound provides a silky environment for some killer flute solos. The chord progression challenges the listener’s ear and gives them a comfortable groove to hang on to.
Ray LaMontagne – “You Are The Best Thing”
This track is a catchy, classic R&B gem. Well-arranged horn lines and background vocals support this righteous melody.
Incubus- “Are You In?”
Sea foam green is in fashion. A classic Incubus jam, I just happen to keep the album around.
Gorillaz- “November Has Come”
Rap spat by MF Doom sits fat in the pocket. It’s worth listening to multiple times.
Maceo Parker- “Shake Everything You’ve Got”
This live track features a chunky bass and tight horn lines, reminiscent of James Brown’s band. I can’t help but enjoy the characteristic funk trombone solos from the one and only, Fred Wesley.
