The New Pornographers – “Backstairs”

I am really excited about the New Pornographers new album – Brill Bruisers. “Backstairs” embodies everything I love about it – channeling an ELO-esque powerful rock energy with lush 4-part harmonies, topped off by Carl Newman’s quintessential puzzle-like lyrics. This is my new jam.

Rubblebucket – “Carousel Ride”

One of my favorite new bands – Rubblebucket’s new album Survival Sounds is chock full of rockin, horn-studded gems like “Carousel Ride” with Annakalmia Traver’s dizzying vocal performances pushing it over the edge into a psychedelic wonderland of sound.

Sylvan Esso – “Dreamy Bruises”

NC-based electronic duo Sylvan Esso have caught our attention with their new single “Dreamy Bruises” – an unrelenting, dirty synth bass smothered in Amelia Meath’s effortlessly sexy vocal track reminiscent of Chairlift make this a great anthem to chill that lingering summer heat.

Sufjan Stevens – “A Little Lost”

Every time Sufjan releases something new, my interest is hopelessly piqued – and he always delivers. His new single “A Little Lost” bears the electronic rhythm section of Age of Adz while more fully embracing his beautiful folk songwriting that has always made me swoon.

Flavor Raid – “Dreams We Never Had”

Our new friends from Austin – Flavor Raid – captured our hearts at our recent show with them in their hometown. Energy like you’ve never heard emanating from two bodies on stage, pounding electronic dance music with witty lyrics, serious swagger, and personality out the wazoo. “Dreams We Never Had” is everything I love about them.
