Woodland Plantation in St. John the Baptist Parish is on sale for $550,000.
The family that has owned the historic plantation since the ’20s has decided to sell the property, according to The Advocate. The plantation was a location in one of the largest slave uprisings in American history and is the birthplace of jazz musician Edward “Kid” Ory.
“There are plantations that have come on the market in places like St. Charles (Parish), but it’s not often because there’s not a whole lot of them,” real estate agent Tom King said, according to The Advocate. “I don’t think you can find one with this history. You’re not going to find this kind of place again.”
