Instagram Profile: Eat.Love.BR.

Social media manager Rebecca Lusk grew up involved in her grandmother’s BBQ restaurant, which she says taught her respect for the sacrifices families make to see their dreams succeed. One way she’s seen that dream succeed is through her Instagram account Eat.Love.Br., which features photos of food from around the city of Baton Rouge. We caught up with Rebecca via email about how she started the account, the perfect food Instagram and her day job.

Tell us about yourself and your job.
I’m a SAHM with a BSBA in Marketing Management. I have an amazing husband and three awesome (but crazy) kids! In addition to promoting area restaurants, I’m a total DIYer and I love restoring old furniture! I decided to start
@eatlovebr with a desire to return to the workforce doing something I love…I love good food and I have a heart for locally-owned places. I want to give them a voice across social media and to make people WANT to take a drive to try something new.

When did you start your Instagram account, and how have you seen it grow since its inception?
I started @eatlovebr in September of last year and have seen a great response to the feed! Owners and managers of area restaurants really appreciate what we are trying to do for locally-owned restaurants in and around Baton Rouge.

What made you decide to create an Instagram account all about food.
My husband and I are self-described foodies and follow all sorts of other foodies on Instagram that feature the food of their cities. When we realized there wasn’t a locally focused feed that provided consistent engagement with followers, we said, “Hey! We can do that!” Baton Rouge is known for its food, but the local farm to table scene is behind here. We want to do what we can to help Baton Rouge catch up by encouraging people to drive a little further for a meal that’s worth it, rather than continuing to eat at the neighborhood chain.

You post delicious looking food from all around Baton Rouge. How do you choose which meals to feature?
They must be from locally-owned restaurants! The people who own these establishments are our family, neighbors and friends! They need our support! If I hear of a new spot that’s opening I get there as fast as I can. I also try to make sure I’m eating dishes that are aesthetically pleasing and also taste delicious!

What’s your favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge and why?
That’s a tough one! We have a perpetuating love for all things City Pork! But we totally LOVE Fat Cow, The State Bar, Magpie and Roux 61 too!! They’re all so consistent and original in their own way!

Describe Baton Rouge’s food scene in one sentence.
Baton Rouge has a rich history of culinary creativity, and that creativity continues to grow with the amazing chefs we have here who are putting their roots down to make Baton Rouge a foodie destination.

What’s the secret to the perfect food Instagram?
Good lighting! And always feature food that looks like you could pick it up and eat it right off the screen! I want my followers to feel like they’re the ones about to enjoy a delicious meal!
