Jazz Fest survival guide

We’re now approaching the second weekend of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, line of the largest music festivals in Louisiana. But despite all of the fun that comes along with Jazz Fest, some things always stay the same: it’s hot, crowded and long. Here are some tips and tricks to get you through the not-so-fun parts of Jazz Fest:

Pack spray-on sunscreen

It’s a hassle to rub lotion all over your body in the middle of a crowd, so spray-on sunscreen will be your best friend when the sun is blazing. Apply every few hours so you don’t walk away with a burn at the end of the day.

Stay away from tight-fitting clothes

The last thing you want is a too-tight top to mate you sweat more, so choose loose-fitting, flawy clothes for your festival experience. Ladies, that means loose tanks or t-shirts. Guys, that means loose shorts and short-sleeved button downs.

Pack snacks

Festival food can cost a fortune, and while you should splurge on one really good meal, arm yourself with some in-between snacks like granola bars or fruit. Your wallet will thank you.

Bring a lip balm

One unexpected consequence of the hot sun is dry lips, so a good lip balm with SPF will save your mouth from flaky skin.

Plan your day

Never show up to any festival without a game plan – you’ll get lost and end up missing some awesome acts. Print a copy of the schedule and highlight the gigs you plan on going to.
