The small Louisiana community of Isle de Jean Charles may soon move north due to the risk of hurricanes, The Advocate Reports. The community recently received a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a test case for many more communities that face land loss risks whenever storms blow through.
“When I was a young kid, right there in the backyard you could walk on the marsh. You could go anywhere you wanted,” said Isle de Jean Charles resident Wenceslaus Billiot, according to The Advocate. “Now it’s different. There’s nothing back there.”
