Lawmakers passed more than $1.5 billion in taxes during the last two legislative sessions, according to The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, and it’s starting to show. A study conducted by the Tax Foundation says the sales tax in Louisiana is higher than any other state in the nation. The study measures combined state and federal sales tax, and Louisiana came back with 9.99 percent.
Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama and Washington followed Louisiana in sales tax rates, according to the study. Alaska has the lowest sales tax rate in the country at 1.8 percent.
