Local Legend Buckskin Bill Dies at Age 88

Longtime children’s show legend and William “Buckskin Bill” Black has passed away.

Buckskin Bill was most known for his features on “Storyland” and “The Buckskin Bill Show.” Many who grew up in Baton Rouge will remember his “Morning March” and guessing game “Hully Gully.”

According to BR Proud he was also a large advocate for bringing a zoo to Baton Rouge. He even encouraged children and families to donate enough pennies to purchase the first two elephants for the zoo, who were aptly named “Penny” and “Penny Too.”

A 30-minute special, Remembering Buckskin Bill, will air on WAFB on Friday, January 12 at 6:30 p.m.
