Louisiana cigarette tax passes Saturday

Starting April 1, smokers in Louisiana will have to pay more in taxes than they usually would due to a cigarette tax increase passed by the state Senate over the weekend.

Cigarettes will now cost 22 cents more per pack, a total of $1.08 in taxes, according to The Advocate. The increase will help fill the $900 million midyear shortfall.
