It’s homecoming weekend and that means lots of fun, exciting events to enjoy! This year’s homecoming theme is “Let the Good Times Roar” and that is exactly what we want you to do this weekend. So rather than have you look up the hottest events, DIG decided to make a helpful guide of events you don’t want to miss out on:
Thursday: October 22
11 a.m. – 2 p.m. @ LSU Parade Grounds
Start your morning and join the LSU community and help with CANapalooza Blitz Build. Together LSU and the surrounding community collect thousands of canned goods to build a replica of Tiger Stadium and Mike the Tiger’s Habitat. This service supports the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Not only can you have fun but you can feel good about helping those in need!
Homecoming Pep Rally and Block Party
7 p.m. -9 p.m. @ LSU Parade Grounds
Next, head over to the Pep Rally and Block Party. This event is absolutely free and open to the public. What other way to get your homecoming week started than with hundreds of other Tigers ready to show some school spirit. This event will showcase the 2015 Homecoming Court, spirit squads, and many other exciting guests. Afterwards, stick around after to take part in the games, music, and food.
Friday: October 23
Live After 5
Downtown @ 5 p.m.
Looking to start your night young? Well, grab your friends and head downtown. This week’s Live After Five show will be featuring music by the talented Wayne Toups. He calls his group, “A Cajun fusion band with a rock n’ roll attitude.” Not only will there be awesome music – but also there will be drinks, food, and fun! Don’t miss this Louisiana inspired music from the Grammy winner himself.
8 p.m. -11 p.m. @ LSU Parade Grounds
Get ready to party! Bring your friends and family to the free event that has become an LSU tradition. Join, 22 years old – pop star, Tinashe as she performs some of her top charting hits like: All Hands On Deck, Player, and 2 On. Along with the star-studded performance by Tinashe, some fellow students Seanil Reed, Sydney Kennerson, and Cypress Wyman will also be hitting the stage! This is an event you definitely do not want to miss out on!
Dig’s Tigerland Bar Crawl
6:30p.m. -10:45 p.m. @ Tigerland
If you happen to find yourself in Tigerland make sure to join us for The Dig’s Bar Crawl. For ONLY $5, you will receive drink samples and free cover at each bar all night. WHOA! 5 different bars, free cover, and free food & drinks! Check in at 6:30 for a free koozie and enter to win prizes. Check out our article in this week’s issue, if you haven’t already, for more info.
Northgate Music Festival
4 p.m. -11 p.m. @ W. Chimes St.
Enjoy local food, music, and art at the 10th annual Northgate Music Festival. This event is full of culture and is the perfect way to get your homecoming weekend started. Enjoy featured music from Baton Rouge Music Studio, Ship of Fools, The Easy, and Captain Green.
Saturday: October 24
All day, @ LSU Parade Grounds
Go view your hard work and see the Tiger Stadium and Mike the Tiger’s Habitat come to life from thousands of donated cans benefiting the Baton Rouge Food Bank.
Greek Homecoming Lawn Decorations
All Day @ West Lakeshore Drive
Get your game day started with a little school spirit. Check out some of the coolest, craziest, out of the box homecoming decorations on the Greek lawns at LSU. This is an annual event that the Greeks love to do and showcase their fraternities and sororities while celebrating the LSU traditions.
11 a.m. – Visit lsu.edu/homecoming to check out the route.
There’s nothing we love more in Louisiana than a good ole’ parade! Come out and celebrate your Tigers at this special homecoming event! This is event is fun for all ages… And of course the event is free and open to the public. So, bring your family, friends, and all.
Battle of The Bands
12 p.m. – 4 p.m. @ LSU Parade Grounds
Join the Student Government and the Homecoming committee as they host Battle of the Bands! Come out and hear some of the best bands around as they compete for the Battle of the Bands title. You definitely, don’t want to miss this!
All Day on LSU’s Campus
And of course this should go without saying – but you can’t have a Tiger Game Day without partaking in a little or a lot of tailgating! Smell the yummy jambalaya, red beans and rice, and the smoky BBQ pits. Make tailgating a priority, especially this homecoming weekend.
LSU vs. Kentucky
6 p.m. @ Tiger Stadium
And then there’s the MAIN EVENT! LSU FOOTBALL. Join hundreds of Tiger fans as they roar their way to victory against Kentucky! Just a few tips, make sure you arrive early to grab a seat in the student section and make sure you have your student I.D. handy. Don’t forget that the 2015 Homecoming Royalty will be crowned at Halftime.
