LSU will take on Florida on Nov. 19 in Tiger Stadium, according to an SEC news release. The game was postponed last week due to Hurricane Matthew.
“It was important for us to come to a resolution. Each university had its own set of concerns throughout this process, however existing SEC regulations did not provide an avenue to resolve conflicting issues in a more timely manner,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said, according to the release. “As I have repeatedly said, this game needed to be played. In the end, I want to give credit to the University of Florida for making concessions to move this year’s game to Baton Rouge.”
Neither school would have been eligible to compete for a divisional title and play in the SEC Championship game had the matchup not been rescheduled due to SEC Commissioner’s Regulations, according to the release. The regulations require each team to play all eight conference games in a season.
LSU was originally slated to play South Alabama, and Florida to play Presbyterian, but each team will exercise cancellation clauses instead.
LSU will play in Gainesville in 2017 and 2018. Next year’s game was originally schedule to be in Baton Rouge.
