Metro Council supports $10 million bond for LSU-downtown tram

It looks like Baton Rouge is getting closer to having its own fixed-line rail.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council is supporting a proposed tram that would link downtown and LSU, The Advocate reports. The council gave its support for a $10 million bond Wednesday.

Councilwoman Tara Wicker said the tram would benefit the whole parish, not just the tram’s district, in which she serves. She said the tram would create jobs for parish residents.

“Whatever projects we do in any of our districts has an overall impact on the city as a whole,” Wicker said, according to The Advocate.

The sleek and modern tram would begin at Skip Bertman Drive and end at the State Capitol Park downtown.
