NAACP asks school officials to resign after valedictorian banned from graduation stage

A local chapter of the NAACP has asked Amite High School officials to resign after the school wouldn’t let its valedictorian walk across the stage at his graduation because he had facial hair, The Advocate reports. Andrew Jones, the student barred from the graduation stage, is supporting the Tangipahoa Parish chapter of the NAACP in its actions.

The school’s superintendent, Mark Kolwe, said Jones was reminded several times before the ceremony to shave his facial hair, according to The Advocate.
