Fashionistas and discount-lovers alike rejoice!
Upscale fashion retailer Nordstrom has announced that it is expanding into Louisiana and opening its first store here in Baton Rouge. The Seattle-based company will open a Nordstrom Rack at the mall of Louisiana next fall.
Nordstrom Rack is an off-price retail division of Nordstrom, and features many of the same designer brands but at a significantly reduced price, 30-70% off. America is growing more and more obsessed with the off-priced business, and recently regular malls have seen less growth while outlet stores have flourished and continue to expand.
Currently, the nearest Nordstrom Rack is in Birmingham, Alabama, and would take about six hours to get to by car. Tony Stephens, general manager of the mall of Louisiana, said in a statement that Nordstrom Rack is a “very, very strong retailer that fits across a lot of demographic lines” and predicts that the store will do very well here. Nordstrom representative Naomi Tobis expressed similar sentiments, saying that the mall was a “great opportunity and a great fit” for the brand. When it opens next fall, Nordstrom Rack will be a haven for those who love designer brands but don’t always love the steep price tags associated with them.
Nordstrom Rack will replace the location currently occupied by the American Factory Direct furniture in the area of the mall referred to as the “power strip,” which is near Dick’s Sporting Goods, DSW, and Ulta. The store will be 30,000 square feet.
