Barcadia on Highland Road is going to be joining in on the Restaurant Week fun, with a $15 prix fixe menu of three courses. Start with a Cajun Wedding Soup made with crawfish, corn, okra, and tomatoes, or a Plantation Salad; choose between a Goose Island Beer Burger, a 12-Hour Pulled Pork Sandwich with Cajun Coleslaw, or Jamaican Jerk Chicken with grilled pineapple relish and pepper jack; and top off with Peaches & Cream Bread Pudding or a Double Chocolate Brownie. As one might guess given the restaurant’s name, there are also a wide variety of beers and alcohols – with some suggested pairings from Barcadia – that can be enjoyed alongside the meal.
DIG sat down recently at the fusion arcade, bar, and restaurant to give the Goose Island Beer Burger a try, and the food did not disappoint. Served on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, the soft, golden-brown bun literally glistened. Drizzled with steaming hot Beer Cheese, the burger was almost reminiscent of a Philly cheese steak, but with a higher quality taste of Coq Au Vin hinted through its blend of mushrooms, onions, and peppers. The patty of fresh beef (prepared fresh every morning) was tender and complimented perfectly by its toppings. Soft, juicy, and packed with flavor, it’s not the type of burger to leave you feeling heavy and greasy, but it’s the perfect amount of satisfying and filling to leave a little room for dessert.
Surrounded by pin-up girls and arcade games, with music like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana playing loudly overheard, Barcadia is a great place to go with a group of friends on a weekend or even for a casual lunch. Whether you’re there to eat, drink, play, or all three, the quality is excellent and the environment is sure to have you leaving happy and buzzing. For those around LSU’s campus, and for anyone in the “beef and beer” crowd, this is a definite must for Restaurant Week.
