Recently, a friend suggested that we all go ‘glamping’ for her birthday. I was skeptical because I just don’t ‘do’ camping. But I did my research. Glamorous camping, or glamping, is a different version of traditional camping. Apparently, there is no tent to pitch, no fire to build, and no sleeping bag. This is camping in a luxurious outdoor domicile. Still skeptical, I agreed. Why? Because I’m a team player. My next thought—of course—was what does one wear ‘glamping’?
Tanks and Shorts
The first items I would choose from my closet would be tank tops in various prints and graphic designs. One of my favorites is from the Perfectly Taylored collection, which can be purchased online or locally at Edit by LBP. One shirt from the Perfectly Taylored collection reads, “Let’s get lost” because, let’s face it, out in the woods we most likely will be lost. Even more, Style Unleashed boutique has a series of tank tops, denim, and casual shorts that look chic and comfortable. From the Free Spirit tank to the Feathered Dreams tank, the woods will not destroy your fashion sense, especially paired with the For the Love of Floral Shorts or the High Waisted Denim short. For the night air, it’s best to pack a thick hoodie or sweater for warmth.
Besides the Jacket and Backpack
Generally, I don’t think it’s wise to be laden with accessories during a camping trip. Besides a hat for sun protection and sunglasses, it is best to just wear simple stud earrings. Carrying a tote bag around in the wilderness is unpractical, so try a simple cross-body or fanny pack-style bag.
My vision is that we will be shuttled to our glamping site in a luxury vehicle, but that probably won’t be the case, so I’ll wear my running shoes. A wide selection of running shoes can be purchased at Varsity Sports Baton Rouge located on Perkins. For shoes, most of my friends will opt for Chaco sandals, which can be purchased at any outdoor gear location. Fashionable sneakers such as Converse are also an option, but I don’t know how functional these will be in an outdoor setting.
If a Tree Falls in the Woods
We can all ask ourselves, “if one looks fashionable in the woods, would anyone see it?” Most likely, yes, with the popularity of social media. Despite what you choose to wear on your next outdoor adventure, the most important aspect to remember is functionality triumphs over fashionability. However−with glamping− it seems that you can have both fashionablity and functionality while enjoying a unique outdoor experience with friends.
