The Baton Rouge River Center, which has served as a shelter for flood victims for the past three weeks, will soon be turned back over to its operator, according to The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report. Only the River Center area will be returned to normal, while the exhibition hall will remain a shelter.
Terri Ricks, deputy secretary for the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, said the number of people staying in the shelter is declining, so they can be consolidated into just the exhibition hall.
“We certainly have no intention of keeping the River Center open longer than the River Center wants to be kept open,” Ricks said, according to The Business Report. “We don’t want to overstay our welcome.”
The River Center has cancelled all September events.
