The LSU Student Incubator will host its 3rd Annual Venture Challenge this spring with the final round to take place on April 25, 2014. The program supports LSU students in their entrepreneur endeavors and will award $25,000 cash to six participating student businesses.
“The Venture Challenge is the total startup experience for LSU students,” LSU Student Incubator Director Jennifer Fowler said. “We start by providing students with business planning and investor pitch assistance, and conclude the program by awarding six student businesses with cash to start or grow their dream business.”
The Venture Challenge is a two-round competition that showcases LSU’s brightest student entrepreneurs and offers their businesses access to the capital and resources needed for long-term success. Students must join the LSU Student Incubator by March 14, 2014, to compete in the Venture Challenge.
Participants will meet with LSU Student Incubator business consultants to effectively develop a business plan by March 28, 2014, to submit for the first round of the Venture Challenge. A panel of judges from the LSU and Baton Rouge business communities will evaluate and select the top four business plans to proceed to the final live round of the competition.
The top four student startups will pitch their business to an audience and another panel of judges during the final round on April 25, 2014, at the LSU Student Union. All LSU Student Incubator members will be invited to present their businesses at the Startup Showcase during this leg of the Venture Challenge. The culmination of the Venture Challenge will result in the LSU Student Incubator awarding $25,000 cash among six winners. The final round judges will distribute $23,500 cash among the four finalists, and an “Audience Choice” winner and runner-up selected from the Startup Showcase will receive $1,500.
