Louisiana colleges and universities were alerted today that the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance would be halting TOPS payments, The Advocate reports. LOSFA stopped the payments because of the possibility of budget cuts.
“Due to the possibility of state budget cuts, all TOPS payments are being suspended until further notice,” said an email that went out to all TOPS eligible institutions today, according to The Advocate. “More details will be provided as information becomes available.”
UPDATE 2/12: According to The Advocate, students will not be responsible for the amount of their TOPS scholarships. Instead, the colleges and universities they attend will take the loss, about 20 percent of TOPS scholarships.
