During the holidays everyone talks about glitter, sparkle and shine. Not only when talking about decorations but also in fashion. So much so that it soon became one of the go-to looks for Christmas and New Years Eve parties.
In the beginning, you only had three choices of colors: silver, gold and black. Now you can find metallic, sequin and glitter dresses in any color and even patterns.
This year, if you want to stray from the pack and maybe allow your personality to shine more than your outfit, try some other eye-catching trends.
Lace has slowly made its return into fashion. First its popularity made a return in bridal, then in festival fashion and now in formal wear. If you are just testing it out to see if it is for you try a black lace dress or top with a nude lining. The nude, lining keeps it from looking like your go to funeral dress and also adds a hint of sexy by giving the illusion that you are showing some skin. If you are a little more adventurous, you try lace in jewel tones such as sapphire blue, emerald green and even canary yellow.
For the really risque ladies, try a mesh dress or jumpsuit with lace appliques strategically placed to cover the important parts of your body.
Flare for the dramatic? Try a cape dress. This new trend if fun and glamorous without being too crazy. The trend started on the runways and red carpets with gowns but now you can find the in a shorter knee length style.
This dress can stand alone with minimal accessories such as strappy single soled heels and bangle bracelets. The perk? Depending on how cold it is you may not need a jacket. The cape drapes over the arms and shoulders rather than falling straight back like a cape you would find on a superhero. This can also be great for those who are self-conscious about their arms.
Dresses with prints
The other eye-popping way to grab people’s attention is with a bold print. You don’t have to settle only for animal print. You can also go for bold, modern floral prints, stripes, chevron and whatever else catches your eye. If it jumps out at you in the store, it will more than likely catch the eyes of other people also.
To keep the print from reading as to far out there, find a dress with a bold print but a simple shape such as an a-line, skater skirt or sheath dress. The simplicity of the shape will tone the outfit down. Keep everything else with the outfit simple to keep the outfit from becoming gaudy.
If you absolutely can’t separate yourself from sparkle, that is fine. You can still add some sparkle in small doses. Add a chunky necklace, bangles or a pair of sparkly slippers.
Ultimately, the choice of how much or how little you choose to shine.
