Young jewelry designer Brooke Marcello has teamed up with Posh Boutiques to sell Kukee Rae jewelry in stores.
Marcello is a student at LSU who began making her own jewelry after buying jewelry on a college student’s budget became nearly impossible. She went from making the jewelry for herself to selling them on campus and online. Posh Boutiques approached her about selling her line in their Baton Rouge and Covington stores after seeing her collection at a fundraiser at LSU’s Delta Zeta sorority house. The collection, Kukee Rae (pronounced Cookie Rae), is a combination of Marcello’s nickname growing up, Kukee and the name of her late aunt, Gina Rae.
Marcello says that not only is the collection named after her aunt who passed away from cervical cancer several years ago, but the jewelry line is also dedicated to her and inspired by her. The inspiration for Kukee Rae comes from her aunt’s time living in South Beach, Miami, Florida. The simplistic beach look comes from Gina Rae’s love of the beach and the simple things in life.
And the collection (available in bracelets and necklaces) does indeed resemble that idea of the easy going feel of the beach and the love of the simple things in life.
Many of the pieces that are currently sold at both Posh Boutique locations are made with a single strand of leather that keeps the look of the jewelry simple. Pearl beads are added to all of the designs to give the piece a beachy feel.
She has also added some beaded pieces to her collection. One beaded piece is her rosary bead choker. Like the rest of her jewelry, it is minimalistic. Small single colored beads are added to a slim metal chain to give the look of a Catholic rosary minus the cross.
Another beaded piece is her beaded bracelets. The bracelets are made with medium sized beads with a single gold bead accent. The bracelets are perfect for the current trend of stacking bracelets.
While the style of the jewelry may be too simple for some people’s tastes, the collection can be great for those who needs to just add a piece of everyday jewelry to their collection. The pieces are great for the “get up and go types.”
You can use these pieces as a way to pull together a simple T-shirt and jeans outfit. Throw on one of the bracelets to add to the laid back feel of your outfit. The collection is also great for festival fashion. Although festival season is over, for now, you can be prepared for next year by stocking up now.
The leather jewelry will not only be a great addition to a lace piece or a flowy top, but it will also be great in the fact that they won’t become uncomfortable in the heat. The simple strands and loose fit will keep you from sweating around your wrists and neck.
The collection is more than likely geared towards adults, but I also believe that this would make great pieces of jewelry for teenagers and pre-teens also.
Kukee Rae is currently available in both Posh Boutique locations in Covington and Baton Rouge. You can also order directly from Marcello herself by emailing her at KukeeRae@gmail.com.
