Baton Rouge resident Kerregan Layne, 16, has started a petition to investigate the Baton Rouge Zoo due to the number of animals who have died there this year.

“We are asking that the USDA APHIS take action immediately to oversee this zoo and figure out why so many animals are losing their lives, and seriously consider shutting it down if solutions can not be identified,” the petition’s description reads.

Three monkeys, two giraffes, a tiger, a golden lion tamarin and other animals have died in the zoo this year, The Advocate reports.

The petition has a goal of 140,000 signatures and has already reached more than 130,000.
