After a long and rambunctious day of tailgating, a Sunday morning pick-me-up is a must. I shoot for a something with the perfect combination of carbs, protein and fat to soak up all the previous day’s potables, and the New York Bagel breakfast sandwich is just the ticket. The good news is that you cannot get drunk from too many carbs – from a bagel, at least – so pick from the dozens of different types of homemade bagels. The Everything bagel – covered in poppy seeds, garlic, onion, and salt – is my go to, but for tamer taste buds, the sundried tomato is pretty killer, as well. I get mine with ham, egg and cheddar cheese, or if I’m feeling crazy, I sub the cheddar for one of their flavored cream cheeses. (I am in an exclusive relationship with the Garden Veggie, so don’t get any ideas.) If you can’t manage to roll out of bed before 11 am, then try one of NY Bagel’s other bagel sandwiches with a side of bagel chips and cream cheese, and wash it down with a cup of Community Coffee. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about the allure of the cream cheeses.
Cost: Breakfast sandwiches at New York Bagel cost $3.49 and are available before 11 a.m. at 8210 Jefferson Highway and 257 Lee Drive.
