Dig Baton Rouge

The Drink

While they may be best known for their burgers and parmesan and duck fat fries, what Fat Cow has been able to do to the ordinary King Cake is nothing short of a culinary masterpiece.

That may be a bit strong, but its creation, the King Cake Shake, is a delicious dessert that deserves the attention of Mardi Gras lovers throughout Baton Rouge, and, frankly, the state as a whole.

A simple milkshake is taken to new heights with the natural King Cake ingredients of cream cheese, cinnamon and the appropriately colored sprinkles on top. Green, purple and yellow sprinkles decorate the creamy concoction and add a little more sweetness to a drink already as delectable as your grandmother’s apple pie.

The flavor isn’t exactly subtle, either. If you were worried that a little cream cheese and cinnamon would go unnoticed to your refined palate, no need to worry. The flavor is bold and strong, ready to be absorbed by the drinker and induce a sugar-coma the likes of which only Buddy the Elf could withstand. It’s incredibly rich, immensely reminiscent of Carnival season and filling enough to cap off even the lightest of meals.

Fat Cow has also been kind enough to include an extra-large straw, which proved totally necessary to getting the thick drink out of the cup.

What Fat Cow has been able to do here is morph the King Cake flavor into a mess-free creation that immediately brings Mardi Gras partygoers back to the sidewalks of St. Charles Avenue during the most wonderful time of the year. If you love the Mardi Gras season as much as the rest of the state, then get your hands on the King Cake Shake before your drive to the Big Easy for parade-loving fun.
