The Drink: Tin Roof Turnrow

By Brandon Jolicoeur

Now that the football season is upon us, we are all looking for that great tailgating beer – something not too light with a lot of flavor that goes great in the hot weather through to the big game. Tin Roof has modeled a craft brew that is great for such an occasion.  At 5.5% ABV and a low 20 IBU’s, Tin Roof brews Turnrow in small 30 barrel batches with 25lbs. of coriander per batch.  The bitterness from the magnum hops is the first thing that hits your palette followed by a smooth maltiness with the pleasant taste of the coriander throughout.  It has a nice medium to darker blonde color with a decent amount of lacing as you drink, and the smell is of the toasted malts and coriander. Tin Roof has intended for this brew to be a Football Seasonal Ale, but I imagine with the popularity I would expect a beer like this to get, they may have to ramp up production all year.  And I don’t believe they will have any problem filling up their brand new tap room with fans of the brew.  You can get Turnrow at grocery stores like Calandro’s for $8.99, and is on tap at various bars around the area featuring craft beers.
