Get your puffy shirts out, because the Manship Theatre will host a “Happy Hour About Nothing,” celebrating 25 years of the beloved sitcom Seinfeld.
“We noticed it was the anniversary of Seinfeld, and a lot of other cities were doing some interesting parties,” said Jason Langlois, head of film programming at the Manship. “So we decided to get together and plan one for ourselves.”
The event will feature four fan-requested episodes on a large projection screen along with Seinfeld trivia hosted by Mike Honore of Drunken Monkey Trivia. The happy hour will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 24 in the Hartley/Vey Studio Theatre at 6 p.m. Admission to the event is free, but reservations are encouraged.
“Right now with the available seating what we can handle is 140 people,” said Langlois. “So spots might fill up fast.”
All Seinfeld fans are also encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character, which will allow them to receive automatic door prizes and drink specials.
“If more than one person comes dressed up as Kramer, one of them is definitely going to win a door prize for being the best Kramer,” said Langlois. “We hope that the fans will bring their own love of the show by dressing up or just be really creative, similar to what happens at a Rocky Horror show.”
According to Langlois, Honore will test everyone’s knowledge of Seinfeld during the commercial breaks in each episode.
“We’re gonna pause it on our big screen, and there’s going to be an ongoing Seinfeld trivia about the entire series, not just the episodes we’re showing,” said Langlois. “Anybody that’s grown up watching the show are going to know the questions. There’s going to be a couple of difficult ones, but also some fun ones.”
Those who wish to compete in the trivia competition are allowed to form teams or participate by themselves. Winners will be able to receive prizes such as memorabilia from the show, t-shits or DVDs of Seinfeld.
Currently, the episodes have not been selected. Langlois encourages everyone to visit the Manship’s Facebook page at facebook.com/ManshipTheatre and cast your vote for which episode you would like to see during the “Happy Hour About Nothing.”
“We’re also going to throw out some episodes that we felt were really good also and let people vote on those as well as let them suggest their own,” said Langlois. “In the end, they’re all so good that I think no matter what we’re going to have a lot of fun.”
And what is a happy hour without drinks? On tap for the evening will be beer buckets, signature drinks, a featured red and white wine, and, of course, the signature Seinfeld drink, peppermint schnapps.
“We’re definitely going to have some peppermint schnapps shots,” said Langlois. “It’s just related with the show and is one of the drinks that comes up in a few different episodes.”
