Baton Rouge resident Alton Sterling was shot and killed by police early Tuesday morning outside of a convenience store, and the investigation into the shooting will be conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards announced this morning. Edwards said he had “very serious concerns” after seeing a video of the incident, which was captured on a bystander’s cell phone.
Sterling, 37, was pulled to the ground and shot by police, who had responded to a call that a man selling CDs had pointed a gun at someone on the convenience store’s property, according to The Advocate. Sterling suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
