Two whooping-cranes were recently released into the wild, and the result is something that hasn’t happened since 1939: a wild whooping-crane hatchling in Louisiana, Nola.com reports.
“This is something we’ve been looking forward to and anticipating since the reintroduction began in 2011,” said Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries biologist Sara Zimorski, according to Nola.com. “One of the major steps in restoring the species is successful reproduction.”
