Under the high ceilings of a former church on South Acadian Thruway, Mid City gets some of its loudest nights.
Mid City Ballroom, at 136 S. Acadian Thruway, is a renovated church that now works as a music venue and event space. Hanging lantern lights, tall windows and a stage up front give it a look that's hard to mistake for anywhere else in town, and it holds roughly 200 to 250 people standing.
What's coming up
The calendar mixes touring bands, local acts and the occasional legend. On the books, per the venue's ticketing page:
Sunday, Oct. 25: Pons, Fool's Errand and Wind Dummy, 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 28: Cashier, 0 Miles Per Hour and A Sky So Black, 8 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 5: Girl of Glass, Thus Spoke Zarathursta, xMercyx and Tanto, 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 11: Joey Z presents SHEEP with Chesticle, SWARM and Drew Frank, 8 p.m.
The one for the roots-music crowd is Thursday, Nov. 12, when guitarist Bill Kirchen, the former lead player for Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, brings his trio for an all-seated show. Ralph & Erika open, and tickets are $30, or $40 for VIP, before fees.
Before you go
Most shows open doors at 7 p.m. and start at 8, and tickets generally run $10 to $50. Shows are general admission and standing room only unless noted, with benches along the walls. Most are all ages, though it's smart to check each listing. Door sales take cash, Venmo and major cards, and presale tickets are usually a couple of dollars cheaper. Note that the venue isn't a bar and is no longer BYOB.
Booking the room
The space also rents for corporate events, parties, art shows and filming. Rates start around $150 an hour with a 50 percent deposit, and licensed caterers can serve alcohol at private events. Call or text (225) 371-0200 or email [email protected].
