If your dog already owns a sweater, BREC has a race for both of you. The 4th Annual Reindog Run lands on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Comite River Conservation Area, 8900 Hooper Road, with registration at 8 a.m. and a 9 a.m. start.
The course
BREC invites dogs and their humans onto a festive 2-mile loop through the park's trails. Comite River Conservation Area covers more than 100 acres along the Comite River and Cypress Bayou, with about 5.5 miles of scenic trail overall, so the race course sits inside a real conservation property rather than a flat parking-lot circuit. Expect uneven wooded footing and dress for a cool December morning.
Prizes, Santa and shirts
Costume up: prizes go to the top dog in each weight category plus best costume across all sizes. After the run, stick around for awards, food and photos with Santa Paws. Register by Nov. 10 if you want BREC to guarantee your shirt size.
Who can enter
The event lists an age limit of 8+ and a $35 registration fee (online through BREC). A rainout date is set for Dec. 19. Questions go to [email protected].
Central and north-side neighborhoods are closest, but the Hooper Road address is an easy hop from most of East Baton Rouge if you want a holiday workout that includes the dog. Pack water for both of you and arrive early enough to pin on race numbers before the 9 a.m. start.
