Canebrake is the beer Parish Brewing Co. says it is still best known for in Louisiana. The brewery that makes it sits in the industrial heart of Broussard, and its taproom is an easy add-on to any Lafayette-area day trip.
How Parish Got Started
Founder Andrew Godley moved from Louisiana to Pittsburgh around 2003 and found a busy craft beer scene there. When he came home, he saw how few breweries Louisiana had and set out to change that. Canebrake, a wheat ale named for the area's sugarcane fields, was the first beer Parish ever sold, brewed on a tiny 50-gallon system that turned out about 20 kegs a week. The current brewery on Jared Drive was finished in 2012, and the brewery is now also known well beyond Louisiana for Ghost in the Machine, its hazy double IPA.
Free Tours on Saturdays
Free brewery tours run every Saturday at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. while the taproom is open. No registration is needed. Tours last about 30 minutes, take 30 to 40 people at a time and welcome all ages. They are not offered on beer release days.
Thursday Trivia
Trivia starts at 6 p.m. Thursdays with two themed games, posted ahead of time on the brewery's social media. Teams can be any size, but prizes go to three players: $20 gift cards for the first game's winners, and a 4- or 6-pack or a $10 gift card for the second.
