In Prairieville, the best compliment for a sandwich might be calling it dirty. At Dirty South Sandwich House on Airline Highway, every sandwich comes dressed with lettuce, tomato, shaved onion, pickle, house dirty sauce and a squirt, plus your choice of cheese.
Start with the standards
The standards are straight-ahead deli. Cajun turkey is $12.99, Cajun roast beef $11.99 and V.I.P. ham $10.99. There's Old School Salami and a Bougie Bologna, and the menu gently insists you add slaw to that one. The P-Ville Pastrami gets a hint, too: add Swiss and slaw.
Then go big
The signature list is where the personality shows. The Uncle Tony is double-stacked mortadella and provolone. The Down & Dirty piles V.I.P. ham, Cajun turkey and roast beef. The Muff brings ham, salami, mortadella and olive salad. The Elián Gonzáles is roasted pork, ham and Swiss, and the Italian Stallion layers capicola, prosciutto and salami with provolone, fresh mozzarella, balsamic vinaigrette and pesto mayo for $16.99.
For a true South Louisiana bite, order the Hog Head Cheese Melt, thinly sliced and dressed, or the Duck Camp BLT, a fully loaded camp specialty.
Salads, sides and add-ons
Tuna salad, chicken salad and pimento cheese come by the side or as sandwiches, and any sandwich can become a salad bowl. Sides include potato soup, potato salad, deli coleslaw, macaroni salad and marinated cucumber and onion. Want extra? Add Dirty Chips, sweet jalapeño relish, a Cajun pickle spear or make it a wrap.
