Holiday shopping lists have a way of growing faster than ideas for what to put on them. Emerald Layne, a gift and home shop in Southdowns Village on Perkins Road, is a good place to get unstuck.
The shop is owned and curated by Paula O'Neal, and its website describes her taste as eclectic, mixing vintage character with newer, harder-to-find pieces. You can see that mix in the inventory, which runs from antiques and wall art to the latest drinkware.
Here's a rough map of what you'll find:
For her: Jewelry from Baton Rouge maker MIMOSA alongside Capucine De Wulf and Coastal Grit, plus Mary Square apparel, Barefoot Dreams loungewear, pajamas, robes, scarves and hair accessories.
For the host: Candles from brands like LAFCO, cocktail glasses, bar tools, cheese boards, serving trays, tea towels and cookbooks.
For the game night crowd: A full mahjong section with tile sets, mats, racks and accessories, plus Jon Hart mahjong bags.
For him: A men's section with polos, belts, golf items, games, travel gear and gadgets, along with BruMate tumblers and coolers.
For the little ones: Baby blankets, bibs, toys, Noodle & Boo bath products and kids' jewelry.
The site also sorts gifts by recipient, occasion and price, with collections under $25, $50 and $100, which is handy for office swaps and teacher gifts. Gift cards and greeting cards are available too.
You can shop online, but note that the same stock sells in the store, so a popular item may be gone before an online order goes through. In that case, the shop says it refunds the order right away.
Emerald Layne is at 4347 Perkins Road and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's closed Sunday and Monday. Call 225-936-4698 or email [email protected].
